Baptism is the basis of the whole Christian life, the gateway to life in the Spirit and the door which gives access to the other sacraments. (CCC 1213)
For parents seeking baptism for their infant, toddler or older child, one parent is expected to be a practicing Catholic and registered active member of our parish so they are able to fulfill the baptismal promise of raising their child in the faith of the Church.
- For children under 7 years of age, parent formation is required.
- For children over 7 years of age, a parent, as well as the child, will need to receive formation.
For more information about our formation process and dates for infant baptism, contact Marie Sheridan at [email protected] or call the office at 517-223-8684, ext 309.
If you are an adult seeking baptism, please refer to the information we have under Faith Formation - Adults – Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults.
Reconciliation and Holy Eucharist
Sacramental Preparation for children to participate in their First Reconciliation and First Communion (Holy Eucharist) is achieved through the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd process we offer at St. Agnes. Catechesis of the Good Shepherd helps children to foster a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
St. Agnes offers Good Shepherd Level 1 for Children who are 3 year old pre-school through Kindergarten. It is recommended that children begin formation at three years of age, although not required for sacramental preparation.
Level 2 is for children in 1st -3rd grade. Sacramental preparation is included in this process. First Grade is a pre-requisite.
For those catching up on sacraments, please contact us, so we may work with you on an individualized plan.
For additional information regarding our Sacramental Preparation Process please contact Iris Winiarski at [email protected] or call the office at 517-223-8684, ext 309.
If you are an adult seeking to participate in the Eucharist or Reconciliation, please refer to the information we have under Faith Formation - Adults – Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults.
In the Sacrament of Confirmation, the baptized are more perfectly bound to the Church and are enriched with a special strength of the Holy Spirit. (CCC 1285)
Our process for the reception of this sacrament of initiation is a two year process that can begin with a young teen’s 8th grade year and continue through 9th. The completion of formation in 7th grade is a prerequisite. 7th grade formation can be through a Catholic school, a home schooling program or here at St. Agnes. If teens are older, they can also join in this process. For more information, contact Marie Sheridan at [email protected] or call the office at 517-223-8684, ext 309.
Sacrament of Marriage
The matrimonial covenant, by which a man and a woman establish between themselves a partnership of the whole of life… is a covenant between baptized persons that has been raised by Christ to the dignity of a sacrament. (CCC 1601)
Getting Married in the Catholic Church: “God has a beautiful plan for marriage...a plan that existed from the very beginning. When couples understand the gift of the Sacrament of Matrimony, and their unique call to create a school of love within a family, they can bring profoundly positive effects to their parishes and communities."
If you, or someone you know, is interested in getting married in the Church, please contact Marie Sheridan at [email protected] to discuss the preparation process which needs to begin at least nine months before the wedding. The process was changed this past year so be sure to contact Marie for details.
